Old Scar on Arm/Laser and Silicone/Redness

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions addressing linear scars, depressed scars, keloid scars, hypertrophic scars, and other facial reconstructive topics. (Of note, Dr. Lam no longer accepts medical insurance so he rarely manages cancer reconstruction or trauma anymore.)

Old Scar on Arm/Laser and Silicone/Redness

Postby JLester » Fri Feb 03, 2012 11:32 am

Had excision on \ arm by a dermatologist 2years ago for an atypical tiny beauty mark and had a reaction to the dissolvable stitches. They pulled apart the incision, got red and itchy and was left with a crater and hypertrophic scar. He injected 2x to reduce the raised area and gave me wound healing cream. Perhaps I should have been more patient, rather than rushing into the injections of Kenalog, based on your truthfull assessment and dangers of this type of approach. I think I would have been left with a depression anyway from the excision itself, and the fact that the wound really did not close. But I was left with a small crater & extreme redness.Had 1 laser treatment to reduce redness & 2 Fraxel to smooth out the area. Saw dermatologist who used Restalyne - perhaps that it would fill in by making my own collagen before using Silikon to fill it in. Now is it is two years later-- still red, although smaller in size, somewhat shiny, depressed and of course the Restalyne lasted maybe 4 weeks-I want Silikon now for filler, but if I need add'l laser for redness..can it be done after Silikon? PDL for red/purple reduction?
TPK?

yes, more laser can go over silicone no problem. also PDL or KTP are the best options for redness and scarring but it won't get rid of it, just improve it.
best,
