rhinoplasty procedure

Postby citeeofangels » Wed Feb 01, 2012 3:13 pm

Hi Dr. Lam,

I am considering rhinoplasty for my asian nose and was wondering what you recommend...implant or bone graft to give a more prominent bridge and pointier tip? Also, after the rhinoplasty, what are the immediate part of the nose that can be seen? How long does it take for the bridge to appear and the tip to be pointy? I got a consult and the PS suggested alar reduction, bong graft to the bridge and tip and reduction of the sides of the nose as well as removal of the slight hump on my nose, will the several things he suggested to be done to my nose make my nose come out completely different that I wont look like myself anymore? THank you.

ANSWER IN ALL CAPS:
I am considering rhinoplasty for my asian nose and was wondering what you recommend...implant or bone graft to give a more prominent bridge and pointier tip? DEFINITELY IMPLANT WITH GORE-TEX FOR THE BRIDGE AND CARTILAGE FOR THE TIP. I DO NOT LIKE BONE GRAFTS BECAUSE THEY RAISE THE BRIDGE TOO HIGH AND ARE TOO HARD AND THEY DON'T FEEL NATURAL. I AM DOING A BONE GRAFT NEXT WEEK FOR SOMEONE WITH A COMPLETELY SCARRED AND COLLAPSED TIP BUT I DON'T DO THEM FOR STANDARD ASIAN NOSES. Also, after the rhinoplasty, what are the immediate part of the nose that can be seen? How long does it take for the bridge to appear and the tip to be pointy? I THINK YOU WILL SEE NICE CHANGES EVEN A WEEK AFTERWARD. HOWEVER, OVER A PERIOD OF SEVERAL WEEKS TO MONTHS ESPECIALLY WITH TAPING THE TIP AT NIGHT YOU WILL SEE ONGOING REFINEMENT. I got a consult and the PS suggested alar reduction, bong graft to the bridge and tip and reduction of the sides of the nose as well as removal of the slight hump on my nose, will the several things he suggested to be done to my nose make my nose come out completely different that I wont look like myself anymore? DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU NEED BECAUSE I AM JUST GOING BY WHAT YOU ARE SAYING. IN GENERAL I DO NOT LIKE ALAR REDUCTIONS IN ABOUT 80% OF ASIANS BECAUSE THEY CAN MAKE THE CENTRAL TIP OF THE NOSE LOOK TOO FULL AND ALSO THERE CAN BE SOME SCARRING IN THAT AREA. I DO USE A SHEEN FLAP SO THAT THE NOSTRIL SHAPE REMAINS ROUND AND SHOULD NOT LOOK PINCHED OR SLIT LIKE LIKE JANET JACKSON'S NOSE. HOPE THAT MAKES SENSE. THank you.
