TCA Cross - Am I a Candidate?

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on managing, treating, and correcting acne scarring. (Of note, Dr. Lam is focused principally on acne scarring rather than on managing the ongoing condition of acne, which a dermatologist would be better equipped to address.)

TCA Cross - Am I a Candidate?

Postby Don » Wed Jan 11, 2012 3:22 am

Hi Dr. Lam,

I have been told by dermatologist that I have some ice pick scars on my nose. He does not perform the TCA cross procedure, so I wanted to ask you my TCA cross-related question. For a while, I had cystic acne that my dermatologist treated with cortisone shots, along with other medication. Some of these cysts on my nose resulted in ice pick scars, usually at the location of the cortisone shot. For the past 2 years, I have had my acne fairly under control. Although I rarely break out, my nose pores, including my ice pick scars, often get congested with sebum due to my oily T-zone. As such, I have to manually extract the sebum/clog using a comedone extractor on a regular basis. Am I still a viable candidate for TCA cross given the ice pick scars are on my nose, as opposed to my cheeks or some other place on my face? Also, will my congested pores be a problem (i.e. prevent proper healing and/or collagen production)?

Thank you,
Don

no, what you have outlined should not pose a problem. however, whether you are a candidate or not i would have to see your situation but it sounds as if you are a candidate.
