hypertrophic scar on asian

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on managing, treating, and correcting acne scarring. (Of note, Dr. Lam is focused principally on acne scarring rather than on managing the ongoing condition of acne, which a dermatologist would be better equipped to address.)

hypertrophic scar on asian

Postby hopeless » Tue Jan 10, 2012 9:58 pm

Dr. Lam,

About a year ago I had surgery on my jawline to get rid of these bumps I had on my jawline I think formed from acne. They were clusters and I went to a dermatologist to get some steroid injections for a while and it didnt quite work well, then I went to get laser treatment, which didn't work because she thought I had puss inside of these clusters which didn't and she advised me in getting a cosmetic plastic surgeon. I found one near where I was located and before he did the procedures he couldnt tell me exactly if it was keloid or hypertrophic because I know that for a keloid to happen a cut or incision would had have to happen. I do have a keloid on my ear and had 3 surgery done on. But, I never had a cut or incision on my jawline. When he did the surgery he said I had a lot of scar tissue underlying and he tried to get as much as he could he said they were deep. He said he was going to make a beautiful thin like, this obviously to me was not a thin line. After that, I thought my problems were solved. Its been a year and I have a red, raised, hardened scar. It has made me so depressed I can't look at myself in the mirror. I'm not sure what went wrong during the surgery whether the suturing went wrong or what. I'm so desperate in finding another surgeon that can somehow answer my prayers in getting these scars down to a minimum even hoping for a invisible scar. I can show you an image of the scar to help you better determine what a good solution would be. Thank you so much.

hi,
yes, these are keloids. the best solution is a combination of surgery and TIMED radiation. this is my specialty. however, you must have good surgery and radiation timed to start within 24 hours of surgical excision. you actually do not need to have a cut to have keloid. what you have based on the photos are keloids.

Dr. Lam,

Thank you for the quick response. I was hoping it wasn't keloid. But, if I were to come to Dallas and have this done, how much will I be looking at cost wise?
