Hollow deep set eyes

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

Hollow deep set eyes

Postby algorn1313 » Sun Dec 25, 2011 11:50 am

Hi Dr. Lam,
I am interested in fat transfer in order to make my eyes appear less hollow and less deep set. I have looked into the orbital fat transfer but there seems to be some high risk complications with that. Where would the fat be placed in order to address this problem? I have had fat transfer to my cheek area and I am only some what satisfied because a lot of it dissipated (i had this done 2 years ago) i am 27 years old but have gone through a major weight loss of 100 pounds so my face is more gaunt than ever before.

as you may or may not know, the two risks that make me uncomfortable to do a fat transfer are someone that is young (under 35) and someone who has major weight loss. you fit both unsafe profiles. the reason is that my fat does stay unlike most doctors and i worry that if you gain weight which can occur with aging and with an unstable weight profile, your face can look fat and in extreme cases even distorted. my suggestion for you is to use Restylane or some other kind of filler done by an experienced physician. and if you wonder does this last? the answer is yes if done a few rounds. in most cases it is actually cheaper to do fat transfer in someone older who is a better candidate but for someone young like yourself who only needs a small targeted area, trust me i think fillers will be cheaper and better for you. i do it better than most because i do it almost painlessly and also with a microcannula that minimizes bruising risk and creates very smooth results. hope that helps.
best,

I have read that argument from you several times about the danger of fat transfer to young people because they may gain weight in the future, however, my face has never been a large fatty face even when i was over 200 pounds. i still had a "skinny face", i never had a double chin or anything like that. So, now that I have lost weight and kept it off for a considerable amount of time, i am not really concerned about my face becoming too fat. i actually prefer the look of round faces. if i live in stillwater Oklahoma, would i be able to come to you for help with this? i have read and seen your work and really haven't seen anyone else that is more knowledgeable on faces than you.

ok, if you are willing to accept those risks then yes i would be open to taking care of you. if you can come in for an in person consultation that would be ideal. if not, you can send me photos and we then arrange a phone consultation instead. we are closed tomorrow for the holidays. you can call my office 972-312-8188 on tuesday or thereafter to set that up when you are ready and interested. :)
