Fat transfer question

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

Fat transfer question

Postby brgil » Fri Dec 16, 2011 6:38 am

Hello, Dr. Lam, I've read a number of the posts on here and your replies to them. I read that you don't typically like to perform fat transfer on people in their twenties. After reading why you don't like to do so I certainly understand what you're saying. However, being twenty-six, while I am happy with my overall appearance I'd like to have more definition around my cheekbones and also fill the areas under my eyes. So, I'm curious if say the fillers that don't offer permanent results would be a better option for me? I guess what I'm asking is for a more chiseled look would fat transfer be a better option than the dermal fillers that aren't permanent?
Obviously, I'd prefer something that lasts basically forever and I refuse to even consider cheek implants because I'm not impressed with the results I've seen. So, yeah, putting aside having to get it done every 8 to 12 months with the dermal fillers (or whatever the amount of time is) would fat transfer to get a more defined look be a bad idea? I've read the dermal fillers can achieve what it is I'm looking for, so is the fat transfer more for a youthful look opposed to a chiseled look?

Also, I think it's very cool that you have a forum where you answer questions. It's a lot cooler than typical e-mail and thanks a lot.

hi,
thanks for the compliment. yes, i would do reversible temporary fillers in your age group in general. the good news is that i have 9 years follow up on my own staff who have done this. i have noticed that with repeated fillers that you really need less and less product over time. it just continues to build on itself so i really don't think you will be wasting money again and again. my staff almost need nothing now after a few years of consistent filling. remember safety first always.
best,
s.
