Scar near the eye area

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions addressing linear scars, depressed scars, keloid scars, hypertrophic scars, and other facial reconstructive topics. (Of note, Dr. Lam no longer accepts medical insurance so he rarely manages cancer reconstruction or trauma anymore.)

Scar near the eye area

Postby jonathanblack » Thu Dec 15, 2011 4:49 pm

[img]Hi!

Last April I fell while running on a pavement and ended up in a hospital. Apart from damaging my shoulder I also fell on my face which resulted in a huge wound in the close vicinity of my left eye. This area was at the time being only briefly disinfected and covered by a patch. Since then I've visited already three dermatologists who had unfortunately different opinions. While the first one said I should undergo laser treatment during this winter the other one said I should wait at least one more year. Furthermore, according to his opinion laser treatment wouldn't help much. Rather, I should decide for tattooing.
In my opinion the trauma looks already much better; however, it seems like there is a layer of skin missing (dermis?). Furthermore, part of the scar seems to be dark-ish. According to one of the doctors that is a remaining of street dust in the skin and cannot be removed otherwise than with a tattoo.
Anyhow, now I do not know what to do! I would appreciate very much, if you could give me an honest opinion/advice on this matter. I am attaching a pic:

Thank you very much,
Jonathan

although it is a good photo, i don't have a good answer. i don't think this is tattooing. it looks like just thin skin. i don't think laser will help. most likely time will continue to fade it but it will never look like the surrounding skin. my feeling just from the photo is that it is not worth a scar revision that could lead to more facial lines from the incisions than what you have right now.
