Scar revision

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions addressing linear scars, depressed scars, keloid scars, hypertrophic scars, and other facial reconstructive topics. (Of note, Dr. Lam no longer accepts medical insurance so he rarely manages cancer reconstruction or trauma anymore.)

Scar revision

Postby Optimistic » Mon Nov 21, 2011 10:04 pm

It's been a Week since I had a 2 1/2 inch scar revised on my face under my temple, which was slightly widen is some places and a little hypertophic. While my surgeon was doing the revision he stated that I had deep scar tissue. My scar was 10 years old. While it is still healing, my scar seems like it's becoming hypertophic again although it appears to be thinner than before. My surgeon put a clear sheet over it while it heals. What can I do for the scar. I go see my surgeon in another week

first, you should always speak with your surgeon about his recommendations. what i do for my own patients is use a KTP or IPL that tends to modulate a scar early to minimize a return of hypertrophic condition. I use 5FU only if i actually see hypertrophy, and yes silicone gel and sheeting are good ideas. :)

Thanks for the response. So how early would you use the KTP or IPL, and also the 5FU?

laser, as early as a week. 5FU typically no sooner than a month because scar tissue does not develop that early and i don't want to compromise wound healing.

Ok great, I'll see my surgeon Monday and quite sure he uses IPL Treatment. I'm somewhat confident in my surgeon (LIPSG). I will suggest he try that; I'm also confident in you.
