Concerns with previous work

Postby curious345 » Sun Nov 20, 2011 1:39 am

Hi Dr. Lam,

I found your forum very helpful and had a few concerns about a previous surgery done. Here's a background on my situation and I wanted to get your feedback.

-3 years ago I got eyelid surgery in Korea and was very happy with the results. They looked very natural and the fold went into the inner eye.

-Around May of this year, I noticed that the fold around both inner eyes were an issue. On the right eye, the fold near my inner eye had simply disconnected. On the left eye, the inner fold had broken off and formed another line. I went back to the same doctor as I was happy with his work to get this fixed. The doctor mentioned that the fold of both my inner eyes "broke" because the pressure was too much on my inner eyes. He recommended cutting/extending my inner eye so the pressure is lessened and fixing the fold. In September, I got this fixed.

-Now it's been a few months now and the healing is better but I still have some concerns. On my left eye, it looks like the fold from the original surgery is still there but looks like the eyelid skin is falling from it. The eyelid skin feels a bit looser than the right and not sure if I need to get this fixed. Not sure if I explained this very well :?

On the right eye, the incision made in the front got sort of swollen (aside from the normal swelling). It was to the point that it felt like something was growing so I had to get a shot from a dermatologist to resolve that. Since then, the swelling has gone done but I'm concerned that it impacted the surgery done. I feel like the skin around the front of my right eye is not typical of what happens post surgery and has impacted the look of the fold slightly. The dermatologist mentioned that a stitch could have potentially come to surface.

Apologies since this is a long explanation and I'm sure I didn't explain as clearly as I could show in a picture/in person. Please let me know if pictures will help as I'm not sure what to do and just unhappy with what happened. I know previous work surgeries are much harder to solve but I don't know if I should wait longer or get a consult to see if I need to fix this sooner than later.

Thank you for your help.

hi,
you are right. it is hard for me to diagnose things without seeing you. in general, it never hurts to wait to see if things settle down especially since there is some kind of swelling. that tends to indicate a temporary problem. it also depends on what method was used. if it was an abbreviated type incision or no-incision method (suture), there is a much higher relapse rate. if it was a full incision, then the chance of your fold changing and disappearing is much less.
