fat transfer questions

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

fat transfer questions

Postby paolo81 » Sun Nov 13, 2011 11:07 am

Good evening Dr. Lam, i am a boy of 29 years in Rome and I recently suffered a loss of fat from my cheeks (after session of IPL). I was thinking about the transfer of fat but I have some curiosity about this procedure: 1 is necessary to wait for further normalize the situation?, consider that they are now almost three months .. 2 is more likely to survive grafted fat in people who have suffered this loss due to medical procedures or who are simply getting older? 3 age is a factor? 4 because when it comes to fat transfer refers to stem cells? I mean the fat that was in those areas previously not already contained? 5 if happened to be suffering from post-operative infection, the procedure would have been in vain? and what other effects could lead to a complication like this? further loss of fat? Thank you in advance. ;)

1. Wait at least a year
2. Should not matter.
3. In general, the risk of doing someone young is Rick of a lot of weight gain when u r older. If your weight stays stable within 5-15 pounds u should be fine.
4. The role of stem cells in fat is still unclear. Don't bank on it.
5. Infection is very rare. In several hundred cases I have done, I have never seen it.
