repair of fat loss/pixie ears

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

repair of fat loss/pixie ears

Postby michelene » Mon Jan 07, 2008 12:56 am

Dear Dr. Lam.

Two years ago I suffered some substantial fat loss in the face from a treatment for acne. At the time I was panicked and unable to determine what was causing it--it happened very quickly. To correct the extremely gaunt look and pain, I had a lower face lift and restylane and radiesse put in later. However, the facelift was not performed very well, and I now have pixie ears --in fact, the ear lobes seem to be the only thing holding up the rest of my face. Plus I have bumps under my skin beneath my ear "lobes" and I fear these are sutures. This looks odd and doesn't feel very good either. Is this something you could correct even though I have been having fillers? I would certainly like to switch to fat grafting--something more permanent, but this face lift revision has to be addressed first. One of your former patients recommended you--I met her on another cosmetic surgery message board while I was looking for solutions for what the acne treatment had done. I don't want to post names of the treatments I had on this message board--I guess what I am asking is how long would I have to wait after having restylane put in for a facelift revision to be performed? Thanks for your time. You seem to answer questions quite promptly--even though you must be incredibly busy. Thank you so much for your time.

Hi,
I'm sorry to hear what you have gone through. I would have to review your personal situation through an in-person consultation. However, I don't believe that Restylane has any bearing on the facelift revision since the revision is localized to the ear area and the Restylane is typically placed elsewhere in the face. I don't see why one would necessarily impact on the other.
Look forward to take care of you,
SML
