lighter colored, hypopigmented acne scar, anything?

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on managing, treating, and correcting acne scarring. (Of note, Dr. Lam is focused principally on acne scarring rather than on managing the ongoing condition of acne, which a dermatologist would be better equipped to address.)

lighter colored, hypopigmented acne scar, anything?

Postby miami305 » Tue Oct 04, 2011 12:30 pm

I will post a picture later.

Can anything be done to a hypopigmented either slightly depressed or slightly raised acne scar, its only a matter of a few weeks old, possibly 2-4 not really sure. If its not from the pimple I thought it was who knows how long it could have been there but it still feels "sore" or maybe its just because I was messing with it and it feels like that because of that.

Now its not completely white just lighter than the skin around it. I have other scars, for instance i got a few stretch marks and those are much lighter, and even stretch marks aren't the color of an injury scar, a tad bit not as white I think.

Anyways, I can't tell if its slightly depressed or if a part of it is just slightly raised. It's sorta pinkish in color except for the one little white edge but I'm not sure if thats because of the Retina A Micro I've been applying to it or maybe it was a bit pink to begin with and I ddin't notice and only noticed the small white part.

Should I keep applying a religious amount of retina a micro to that area, retina a works quite well with my skin type, in a matter of a few days post inflammatory redness from acne is 80 percent + gone.

I'm very light skinned, I think of it as the northern central european skin type. Very light with a slight cream undertone. I really don't have pink undertones etc like some of the scandinavian neighbors.

Am I damaging this area more with the retina a micro, does this commonly happen that a pimple will cause slight hypopigmentation and it will go away later? Again its not completely white, just lighter.

Should I continue to apply a good amount there? I can't imagine that little pimple that I had there although it was sore a bit if I remember causing deep tissue scarring, my acne was always moderate I just would let it go. Retina A micro works wonders in just days for me, its quite amazing. I know hypopigmented scars is difficult to teach, people try everything from needling to lasers and chemical peels, but if you look at all those things you will notice people get hypopigmentation from these things as well! It's not that noticeable when I have showed a few people they are like what "what man" , "I can't see anything" etc but yea I dont want to do a chemical peel and then have it worse than it was. Fraxel laser has good results it seems with this but againl horror stories of hypopigmentation with that as well and that seems like the best laser treatment for it. Some people suggest PUVA and that it can be permanent more so if pigment producing cells are still there, (I'm guessing they are, just a pimple and i wasn't doing anything crazy to it)

Its so slight I can't even tell if its slightly raised or slightly depressed. Maybe i just need to let it heal completely if it hasn't already, I'm assuming the lighter area came from that pimple a few weeks ago because I never noticed it before. There is a little redness from that pimple still there which is touching/ maybe once a part of that white area, its below the skin now so very hard to tell. I will go with the theory that it was from that time.

Sorry for my disorganized thoughts :) Just basically is the retina still ok to apply in that area in liberal amounts to try and rebuild some collogen as good as possible or should it be left alone?

Thank you and any suggestions would be great.

hi,
first of all, it is always best to check with your dermatologist since this is a derm question and not a surgery question. however, i would believe that the retin a should have no issues with light color of the skin. i think over time things should improve but again this is a question that a dermatologist probably would answer better than i can.
best,
