18 years later my chin implant feels uncomfortable

Postby cordy1474 » Sun Oct 02, 2011 2:43 pm

I dont think its infected or shifted. But I do feel something is wrong... For about 3 months now (on and off) it feels tight and uncomfortable. I have foliculitis with Staph close to it - on my jaw at both sides, but my dermatologist doubts it is directly related. When I apply alot of mousturiser it seems to help, so I wonder if my skin is tightening from using AHA skin cleansers and spot creams etc (benzl Peroxide etc) and it has put pressure on the implant? I am about to start a combination of two anti-biotics (rifampin +clindomycin) so maybe this will help the foliculitis. But with regard to the implant, if it doesnt go away I will have to get it removed, which is no doubt costly, and I worry that after 18 years the skin will sag (though to be honest it is a tiny implant, but i was always happy with it) I wonder if you have any ideas why it is hurting after all this time?
many thanks
Chris

besides infection, you might want to make sure that the implant has not eroded into the dental roots or into the mental nerve. if the implant was placed too high in thin bone instead of thicker cortical bone, that could happen. then it would have to be removed. an x-ray by a dentist (panorex) would possibly be a good idea to rule that out.

hi I dont feel anything bad in my teeth or roots, and have had an xray recently from the dentists. I dont know what it could be... today it feels achey and it is just the chin implant area that hurts. its not discoloured or swollen or anything but a dull ache and a tightness. and it stays for a few days, the most so far being ten, then goes for a few weeks and then returns. it is not tender to touch either. could it be just overuse of benoxly peroxide and aha facewashes making the skin tight, and a few days of normal washing and heavy mousturizer could fix it? Perhaps its being close by to foliculitis lumps that irritates it? thanks for your thoughts...
