Midface implants

Postby Brangalina » Sun Sep 25, 2011 4:31 am

Dr lam
I am hoping you can give me some insight into my current situation regarding facial implants and there removal. I had a small silicone premaxillary implant placed below my nose,no rhinoplasty, the implant was put in through my nose, I was under the impression it was going in through my mouth since I got large malar terino shell 4mm implants for submalar augmentation. Well besides all the expected swelling to my face my nose looks swollen the tip in upturned and the nostrils are round and wide, it looks like a pig snout. In your opinion is this because it was put in through my nose? I want to have it all removed asap.I have read about you removing most of your patients premaxillary implants due to low patient satisfaction. I am only 3 weeks post op so I am still distorted from the swelling but I can tell if 50 percent of the swelling was gone I don't like
it.I am 33 years old. If I remove all these implants sooner than later is it possible to go back to my pre op look. If so how long would it take, particually my nose? And is it true these implants can be slipped out in the office just under local? Thankyou so much for your expertise.

hi,
at 3 weeks, your best course of action is to try to speak with your surgeon. it is much easier for the surgeon who put it in to remove it since i do not know exactly where and how big the implant is. i do not do a ton of premax implants and the silicone variety i haven't done in years. i only did a few and gave up when i saw the results. that being said, i do not know of the long-term consequences of leaving them in, i.e., whether there would be the same effect on the nasal tissue as a silicone implant on the bridge. that is something again that i suggest you ask your surgeon. he probably has more experience putting these silicone varieties in than i do. wish i could be of greater assistance.
best,

Thanks dr lam
Yes it would be great if my surgeon would answer these questions for me because then I wouldn't need to fish for answers on the Internet. Unfortunately he offers me little to address my concerns. I am hoping he will agree to remove these, but will go elsewhere if he won't. Can you tell me if I take them out will I return to my pre op look, I plan to have them out in a couple of weeks and have had them in for almost a month, whats the recovery like for removal in terms of swelling and numbness, looking presentable? And when can expect to look back to my pre op look? Your opinion is greatly appreciated!

again, these are questions that i defer to your surgeon. however, in general, it should be able to be removed through a small incision so additional numbness should not really be too bad. swelling is variable but if the removal is expeditious then it should not be that bad either. minus scarring and if any muscles were disrupted then the looks should be similar if not the same as before. wish i could be more precise but that is the best that i can do.
