Concerns about face (with pictures)

Postby eyeofthebeholder » Sat Aug 27, 2011 9:36 pm

I am female, 19 years old and I have a problem with my cheeks, chin, smile, nose and whole lower part of my face. When I smile the problem seems to become more pronounced. My nose flare seems to be wide and my nasal ala (i think thats how you call it) separates from the middle, and goes up creating an inverted triangle on the tip of my nose which I consider a gross look to my face. The whole right side of my face seems to lift more than the left side when I smile. My right flare lifts more than the left and the right side of my upper lips lift. Finally, my jawline and chin bone seem to be deviated to the right.

I thought maybe here I could get advice as to how I can look better and if that could be achieved without a plastic surgery, or what surgeries could benefit me and general advice and maybe a "diagnosis" on my appearance.

Here are some pictures of me where you can observe the anatomy of my nose and lower face.

Thank you!

hi,
thanks for posting photos and for your interest. a few things: 1. it is near impossible to fix asymmetry. 2. it is not worth trying because it is impossible plus it does not affect one's beauty as much as we think. 3. at your young an age, you will have many changes to your face as you get older. please be careful not to do anything radical.

that being said, rhinoplasty may give you the refinement to your face more safely. one image i see the shape of your cartilage in your nose. that image makes me think that i could get a good result for you. however, in the other images, your skin looks thick enough that i am worried that i might not get such a good result. the thicker the skin and the weaker the cartilage the less likelihood that i will improve the nose. the thicker the cartilage and the thinner the skin, the higher likelihood that i can help you. as far as the smiling goes, the change to the nose during smiling is very very hard to fix. during a rhinoplasty i do cut through the depressor septi muscle that is in charge of that movement but it still has some partial function after the procedure, so i would definitely not sell you that as a reliable goal. hope that helps.
best,

Thank you Dr Lam, I am impressed at how quickly you answered! I am wondering if my cheeks could be reduced and if the asymmetry could be treated with botox or fillers. Also, what do you mean you are unsure if you could get a good result? Do you mean a bad result as an artificial look? What would be the strategy used to improve the appearance of the nose and in which aspects would you expect to see changes (in a good result scenario)?

One more question: have you seen any case similar to mine? I've done extensive research on before and after pictures and types of surgery, anatomy nomenclature, surgeons etc but I never found anyone with a nose that looks like mine or does the same thing with the smile...

again, i cannot see your nose perfectly in the photos. however, that being said, everything you described is pretty normal. nothing abnormal at all as far as i hear.
