Lip design - white roll, vermillion border and philtrums

Postby Heart » Tue Jul 19, 2011 1:24 am

Dear Doctor,
do you never inject into the vermillion border to create a white roll? You said in one of the other posts that you are not an "outliner guy". So you would not inject into the vermillion border. But isn´t that a youthful look and how do you create more vertical height? Or is that border and philrum thing overplayed? Is it risky to inject into the vermillion border because it could create collagen in an unwanted manner?
How do you create more vertical height?
Just curios what you think about lip design. Thanks so much.

vertical height has very little to do with the vermilion border. it has to do with the lip substance. if i do borders i would do it with juvederm/restylane. i do not like the way silicone looks there. in fact, in general, i do not like borders because they look done. philtral columns are also overplayed in my opinion. as far as injecting the border, i stay on the red side. when you go to the white side it looks like a duck, very fake. also, the older you are the less natural a border injection looks. i see this almost every day. i am just more conservative. i like lips that look soft and pouty rather than hard-edged and defined. just my taste. but my taste looks natural.
best,

Thanks so much. I agree totally. That´s what I thought. Nice to have one doctor saying that out loud.
Last question and I promise I will be quiet afterwards: Why are there silikon injectors who inject in a linear threading technique (tunneling and depositing the silikon in a fine thread rather than microdroplets). There are voices who say that in that manner (one thread of silikon) one can be more precise. I know you do it in microdroplets, right? Why are there different techniques. Is there pro and cons for every technique or shouldn´t it always be the microdroplet technique rather than a linear threading technique? What happens when it is done in a linear technique (I have seen that it is done in Europe in that fashion).
And thanks again for your patience and neverending knowledge.

no problem at all. that is why i have this forum. i honestly think it does not matter so long as you are skillful. in general, i prefer the multiple injections because i feel that i can minimize coalescence of the particles since i am going vertically into the lip at different levels but i think either method is fine if you go to an experienced injector.
