Best Option to Correct Oddly Shaped Lips (Help, please!)

Postby LilyPad » Sun Jul 17, 2011 4:31 pm

Dr. Lam,

I am a 31 year old female and my lips are very thin and oddly shaped. My philtrum is quite long, which adds extra strangeness to their shape. It has been this way since I can remember and runs in my family (my dad and many relatives share this unfortunate gene). The thing I hate most is how the middle of my upper lip comes down to a point and protrudes, which makes me hate my profile. Also, when I part my lips, you can just barely see a teeny tiny sliver of teeth. I desperately want this fixed. What do you think my best option would be? I have researched lip lifts and injections, but I can't decide which one would work best. What should I do? Thank you so much in advance and I look forward to hearing from you. :)

hmmm, i don't have a good answer for you. i definitely definitely would not do a lip lift. i hate them especially for someone of your age. the lip fills can help but you may see less teeth since that seems to be a concern of yours. i wish i could give you a good answer. i do not think there is a great answer for you but maybe try a temporary lip fill by a qualified injector first.
best,

Thank you so much for replying. That is what I feared. Ugh, this sucks. Do you think that concentrating the filler more on the sides would at least even them out, since that is where they are the thinnest or would that look weird? Not anything drastic, just enough to make them look more normal. I would rather them look even and sacrifice less show of teeth, since it's not like you could see them in the first place. I guess I should be thankful you can see plenty of teeth when I smile, at least. lol. Anyhoo, thank you again for your time! I really appreciate your insight.

hi,
you could put some into the areas 1/3 of the way in that tend to curve upward to make the lip straighter but i do not think your lips look bad. if you are so sensitive about your lips, may i ask one question? who said something to you to make you feel so sensitive? your lips are not bad in my opinion at all. they are NOT abnormal.
best,
