Jawline Keloids

Postby briancl » Wed Jul 06, 2011 5:55 am

Hi, I have clusters of keloids on both my right and left jawline. They both started as really small pimples, but eventually grew into keloids and joined together. My main issue is they are quite raised. What treatment would you recommend and what type of results can be expected? How much would it cost? Also, their is facial hair growing out of them if that helps. I also have some large keloids on my chest and shoulder, could you give an opinion on how to treat them?

Thanks,
Brian

generally, i do not manage keloids outside of the face and neck area. however, KTP laser, 5-FU will probably help the facial ones and adding steroid to the body ones may help further. generally, things should be improved and controlled but not entirely eliminated.

Thanks for the quick response. Would steroid injections give a good result for the facial keloids?

yes, but steroids always carry a risk of skin atrophy. that is why i am particularly cautious with them. also, faces typically do not get keloids. they get hypertrophic scars. necks, scalps, ears, and bodies get keloids. hypertrophic scars respond well to 5-FU and KTP alone, minimizing risk. keloids need some steroid oftentimes to get a better result. that being said, i have still gotten good responses without steroids for limited body keloids. i oftentimes start without steroids then increase the steroid component within the 5FU until i see effective results while minimizing atrophy risk.
