removal of silicone nasal implant

Postby miyo » Mon Jul 04, 2011 11:29 pm

Dear Dr Lam

I am post surgery 4 weeks now and the persistent redness on my nose is now accompanied by a slight white area on the tip. From my understanding, the white would mean that the skin is thin and the tip of the silicone (L-shaped) could be stretching the skin too much.

I have a mind to remove the implant 4 weeks later, after the scar tissues heal better.

As I am still undecided about a revision until this problem is resolved first, can you advise how the nose will look after removal of implant?

My nose was wide to begin with and the bridge is relative , my initial concern for the nose is the wide tip and that it droops. Now, if I were to remove this implant without additional, can I assume that the tip will droop back to the original state (or 80-90%). I read in your FAQs that the nose may contract after implant removal and pull the nose tip upwards.
Does this happen for most cases?

Thank you in advance for your advice.

the longer you wait, the more risk of pressure changes that the implant can cause to the underlying cartilage and bone (that is deform the shape of them) and also lead to upturning of the nose. if you do not like the look, i personally would not wait many months to years to do remove it.
