Taking out of silicone implant with lateral osteotomy done

Postby Lalitacupcakes » Mon Jul 04, 2011 7:40 am

Hello Dr. Lam,
I am an asian rhinoplasty patient. I am 3 week into my surgery and I regret it very much. I didnt realize how it would really feel to have a silicone implant in my nose. I really would like to take out the silicone. However I also had a lateral osteotomy done to make my bridge between my eyes narrower and was wondering how long should I wait to take out the implant and would taking out the implant make my face look odd since I also got the lateral osteotomy? Are there any risks involved in taking out the silicone this early and once I take the silicone out will I be able to feel my nose again? Also since I got the osteotomy, will my nose contract or anything once the silicone is out? And lastly, sicne I just recently had my nose done, would the healing time double/ be worst than before? I really regret doing this. Please help me. Thank you very much.

obviously, i did not do the case so i cannot answer your questions directly. you need to ask your surgeon. in general, however, it is almost always better to remove a silicone implant sooner than later because if you wait many months to years silicone has a tendency of crushing the cartilage and bone that it sits on over time. however, if you are complaining about the way the nose feels, that is typically (but i cannot speak in your case) something that becomes less obvious over time because any numbness or other sensations start to diminish over time. but again, you need to ask your surgeon those questions. i cannot speak if any irregularity would show up in your nose if the implant is removed because simply put i did not do the osteotomies. one more thing is that sometimes if you don't like the look of a nose over time things can improve as swelling subsides. however, if things really look off, then you might be right that removing the implant may be a better course of action before the implant starts to affect the cartilage and bone in your nose.
