Conchal Deformities?

Postby ear123456 » Mon Jun 27, 2011 6:43 pm

Hi!

I originally asked a question about the newly formed structures in my ears on realself.com: http://www.realself.com/question/conchal-bowl-ridges-after-bilateral-otoplasty

It has now been 6 weeks since surgery and I have seen the original surgeon about my concerns.

The result of the meeting:
1.) He was pleased with the results. He thought my ears looked great.
2.) He told me that the ridges in my ears are not due to swelling, rather than the cartilage in my concha overlapping.
3.) The ridges may soften with time.
4.) I am 80% healed.
5.) He is not considering a revision.

There is a bit of loose skin over the ridges, and it seems as though there is a bit of swelling surrounding the structures. In the morning the size of the ridges is greater than later in the day.

I had normal conchal bowls before the surgery. Now, I feel like I have been deformed. What should I do?

Thanks!

to me, it looks very good. if that ridge does not disappear, we can inject it with some filler either temporary or permanent to soften that line. o/w i agree with your surgeon. looks fine so far.
best,

Thanks Dr. Lam.

There isn't a lot of information on the web on how this happens.

99% of the photos I have seen are from procedures that do not produce ridges. What causes this and is this something that can be fixed via a revision?

Thanks!

cutting the concha out can show a slight ridge when the edges overlie. i see that sometimes too. the best "revision" is an injectable filler to soften it out, not surgery. the reason i do not see a lot of this ridging is that i sew the edges together but i really think that is excessive.
