Are these doctored before and after photos, or real??

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions addressing linear scars, depressed scars, keloid scars, hypertrophic scars, and other facial reconstructive topics. (Of note, Dr. Lam no longer accepts medical insurance so he rarely manages cancer reconstruction or trauma anymore.)

Are these doctored before and after photos, or real??

Postby kovacs2222 » Sun Jun 26, 2011 12:45 pm

Hi Dr. Lam,

I am wondering if these are doctored photos of patients' before and after results. It seems a bit too hard to believe for scar removal via DEEP FX. Though, it could be true. Do you think this is legitimate? Thanks in advance!

Also, I ask because I have a hypopigmented keloid scar on my forehead that I've had two z-plasty's done to already. The results were at most 25% in terms of visual success. The scar is also softer and several years old. Anyways, I'm thinking about DEEP FX, but I'm worried about the REAL results, as you may already know, I am wanting at least a 50% reduction.

sorry, had to delete the link. do not want to disparage any other docs. i personally think the photo that i saw was a change in lighting. i really do not think a laser especially fractionated will fix a scar. i assume it is not a keloid or hypertrophic, since the laser will make that worse. and why did you have a z-plasty for a forehead scar? was it vertical? if not, that makes no sense. a z-plasty is intended to reorient a scar and to lengthen it. there are better ways to break it up visually like a geometric broken line repair.
best,
sml

Yes, the scar is vertical. The doctor you saw in the link is the one that recommended DEEP FX. I have had the z-plasties with a different doctor. So, the geometric broken line repair is superior to the z-plasty? Also, a portion of the scar is horizontal, which now has a literal "Z" shape (it looked better before the doctor did that part unfortunately). Would it be advisable to get the geometric broken line repair to help offset and make better the z-plasty "mistake" and the rest of scar? I can send you photos and would like to talk to you about a possible consultation, prices, etc. via PM/email. Thanks in advance!
