Asian Rhinoplasty -- Gore-Tex removal

Postby tranxtran » Mon Jun 20, 2011 8:14 pm

Hello Dr.Lam,
I heard a lot about you and just wanted to ask your advise. I have had 2 surgery on my nose the first time I had silicone implant in my nose but I didn't like it. It was too pointy at the tip and it looked really fake. So then I had it taken out and the doctor implanted Gore-tex which I think looks better at the bridge but I still don't like the tip of my nose. He also made my nose longer so I think I look funny now. So my question is I would like to take the gore-tex out of my nose but only where the tip is at. I like how my bridge looks but I am worried that if I do that it would my nose look flatter or collapse (because there might not be any cartilage there anymore). Is that possible? Can we just have the gore-tex implant on the bridge?

first, this is why i don't put goretex in the tip only on the bridge. however, if you have a single piece, it is not that easy to remove. you will have to have an open rhinoplasty to remove the implant but i don't know what kind you have. sometimes the implant is not the soft pliable flat kind that i use but a thick brick type that if i amputated the tip then it would not match. i would then have to replace the gore-tex with another gore-tex. i would replace the gore-tex tip with cartilage. i hope that makes some sense.

I understand and it sound complicated. What if I decide to just take the whole thing out and not implant anything in anymore. Is that possible? Would my nose look deform. I have had a couple of surgery done and I know some people who have gotten rhinoplasty done and it just seems like the tip never looks right.

yes, you can look deformed. the reason is that previous implants stretch the skin out and also cause pressure issues on the tissues below. if you have bigger implant or have had a silicone implant the chances are real that that could be the case. it is not an easy solution but you need to be prepared to replace your implant with something else if it is too big.
best,
