rhinoplasty after cleft lip surgeries as a child

Postby thaliaa13 » Wed Jun 08, 2011 11:49 pm

Hello, Dr. Lam
I have been baffled by this, seeing as to how I've done research for the past couple of months and I haven't been able to find a definitive answer. I was wondering what can be done for a person who has gone past surgeries to correct a cleft lip? I am a 19-year-old female who was born with a cleft lip, I had two surgeries as an infant to close the upper part of my lip, and one more at ten to place some bone and close a relatively tiny hole from my nose to mouth. They also removed some bone from the hip in order to place it on my upper lip.

My nose is unsymmetrical and I would like it to be smaller as well. The surgeries left a linear scar from my right nostril to my lip, but I do not mind it so much seeing as to how almost no one notices.

Thank you for reading.

for the cleft lip scar, you can perform a scar revision as needed. for an asymmetrical nose, you can perform a rhinoplasty for this condition. although i do a lot of rhinoplasties, i do not specialize in cleft lip nose repairs. i do not know if i can make a recommendation for someone who does though but rhinoplasty is a way to go to at least improve the nose shape and symmetry even though it cannot entirely correct the situation.
best,
