scarring

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on managing, treating, and correcting acne scarring. (Of note, Dr. Lam is focused principally on acne scarring rather than on managing the ongoing condition of acne, which a dermatologist would be better equipped to address.)

scarring

Postby Shana398 » Wed May 18, 2011 10:19 am

Dear Dr. Lam,

I had punch excsion performed on some icepick scars in June of 2010. Two of the scars left from the punch excision are now larger than before and they are deep. One is on my left cheek. It is a wide line and also deep. The other is on my right cheek and a round deep hole type. I also have three more that were done that are small lines but depressed as well. I am wondering if you can do anything for the depressions that are left now, such as silicone or TCA. I consulted with two other plastic surgeons, both of whom recommended dermabrasion; however after researching it, I am afraid to have it done. Also, while researching the dermabrasion, I came across your name and website and was impressed with your knowledge and attitude towards healing. Thank you in advance. I have had a hard time since last year looking people in the eye due to my scarring. I preferred the icepicks to what I have now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi,
sorry to hear of what is going on. i would have to see it. however, just listening to your situation, i would most likely go with silicone (for bigger holes) and TCA (for smaller holes). i use dermabrasion for linear scars but not for holes.

Dear Dr. Lam,

Thank you so much for your prompt response. I really appreciate it. I would love to make an appointment with you but I am wondering if it is possible to have silicone and/or TCA cross or dermabrasion, whatever I would need, done on the same day as I came to Plano, as I am from out of town, about nine hours away. I can also try to send pictures if that would help you, although it is hard to see my scarring in pictures.

yes, i can do all 3 but the 3 areas would have to not touch on the face. most likely i could do 2 of the 3 treatments as the face is not that big. hope that makes sense.
best,
sml
