Painful scar

Postby gogogiraffes » Tue Apr 19, 2011 8:20 pm

I had a mole removed off my back that was dysplastic back in August. The dermatologist just cauterized it and put a band-aid on it. A few months later the mole started to come back and was a bit painful (what triggered me to look at it again). I had switched doctors, and she removed it and put 5 stitches in it. I guess it's been 2 weeks since the stitches coming out. The nurse mentioned no problems, when taking out the stitches, and she said that the diagnosis came back as just scar tissue nothing else.

Today while trying on a dress, I got an extremely painful feeling around that area. When my boyfriend looked at it, the only way he can describe it, is it looks like a pimple. I have had a keloid before, though it was on my ear after I had it pierced, this was the cartalage and it was after it had gotten hit with a boogie bored at the beach, and that keloid got about the size of a small grape and eventually with tea tree oil, subsided. I was wondering if I should pay another insurance payment, and go in and have the dermatologist look at it. I did have a sever band aid allergy this time. And I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Thanks!

it sounds like a hypertrophic scar, a keloid, or an infection. i would probably have someone look at it. i prefer 5FU injections and KTP laser. most will probably use steroids for these thicker scars. just be careful to avoid any atrophy or divoting.
best,

Thank you for your quick reply. I managed to get a decent picture to kind of describe what it is... it's the bump in the middle that I'm concerned of. I got the mole removed the 23rd of March. The stitches came out on the 5th of April.

don't know about the bump. would have to see it. could be a suture popping through or a small suture infection. the rest of the wound looks hypertrophic. i would see your doc to manage it.
