This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on managing, treating, and correcting acne scarring. (Of note, Dr. Lam is focused principally on acne scarring rather than on managing the ongoing condition of acne, which a dermatologist would be better equipped to address.)
Dr. Lam, I'm forty-one years old with really bad oily skin. I have acne scarring from my teenage years. As an Africa-American, what can I take or do to stop the oily skin period. They say Accutane is best for the job but, there is some side affect that come along with it. Again your advice is greatly appreciated.
i would speak with an aesthetician and dermatologist for a better answer than i could give. although accutane is powerful that may be overkill. i would start by making sure that you are using a pH balanced cleanser and NEVER soap that tends to dry out and then create more oil production. also, you should be careful not to wash your face over and over again that can lead to more oil build up. those are my starting thoughts. best, sml
