Wedge resection for witches chin after chin reduction surger

Postby katychocolate25 » Sat Apr 02, 2011 4:52 am

Hi Dr Sam,

I am wanting to correct saggying tissue and muscle from chin reduction surgery through a submental wedge resection.

I think there is some scarrage in the internal tissue of my chin as I get a couple of funny dents in my chin when I smile just above the pdroopy art that would be excised, I am worried this will prevent submental wedge excision if there is scar tissue, as the tissue needs to be excisted then tightened and pulled under the chin to tuck up, or because this is just a simple excision and closure procedure, should I be okay to have this procedure done even if there is scar tissue?

Woudl apreciate your advice.
Thank you.

you should be ok even if there is some scar tissue under there. witch's chin deformity is hard to entirely correct with the wedge resection but can be improved. just my experience with it.
best,

Thank you for your reply. Please may I ask.

What contributes to making it difficult to correct via wedge excision?

Is it difficult to tighten the tissue? Or does adequate tightening pull the lower lip down to much?

no, it does not pull the lip down. just when the muscle is tightened it loosens a bit so that it is not 100% snug after a little while. however, it is improved.

Do you still perform this surgery yourself? Would you do it on a 25 year old due to scar? I mean due to the fact it leaves scar.

This other surgeon said they wouldn't do it on me as I'm to young and they didnt want to put a scar on me. But I don't mind. Scars can be camoflagued and I'd rather fix it personally.

Also can it be used to correct saggying muscle or is it only good if its just excess skin and fat, my whole chin pad has drooped, its not just a bit of saggy skin.
