Hyaluronidase

Postby Raleigh4718 » Fri Apr 01, 2011 11:16 pm

Hi Dr Lam,
With your experience revising Juvederm or Restylane done elsewhere, do you normally see the skin recover after a series of Hyaluronidase injections?
I realize the topic of Hyaluronidase degrading natural HA is something that appears to polarize plastic surgeons.
In theory, if the body is replaces the HA degraded by the enzyme, does the skin eventually go back to "normal" after a couple of months? Does this depend on the area, for example, can lips and lower eyelids suffer more because the skin is more fragile there?
Thanks for having an informative forum :D

yes, it goes back to normal. the lips are more immune to degradation but the lower eyelids are more prone to it.

Thanks for your answer Dr Lam
In your experience can this process take several months? I have read about the body making more of its own HA in a matter of days.
My experience a few years back with dissolving filler in my nose before revision rhino was that my nasal skin recovered about 8 weeks afterwards.
However more recently I unfortunately had to have Juvederm dissolved from my lower eyelid & orbit as too much of it created puffiness and fluid retention to the point of major lower lid herniation for 8 months. It took a while to find a practitioner in my area who stocks the enzyme. After many low dose enzyme injections over several months, I am 1 month post-hyaluronidase. My eyelids are thin & transparent with purple discoloration, new wrinkles, folds and loose skin everywhere. People say I look tired & ill. Yet I'm 30 and healthy. Even with botox (which I never needed before), everything below the eye pleats & wrinkles when I smile.
So, I have really noticed the difference between my experience with this enzyme in the nose compared to eyelids.
Anyway, I am praying the body is clever and can heal over coming months. If things don't improve i will need something like Plasma/laser/TCA to help boost collagen/elastin and tighten slightly. Right now I look like a skin pinch candidate (although I know this sort of surgery is not good....thank you for posting videos on that topic!).
Thanks again Dr Lam :)

i have seen it take weeks to over a month for collagen to be replenished. that is why i typically use very little hyaluronidase when dissolving things.
