sunken cheeks

Postby pm60 » Wed Mar 30, 2011 4:10 pm

Dear Dr. Lam,

I have been reading a lot recently about fat trasnfer to cheeks. I have sunken cheeks and although I have gained about 22 lbs in the last 10 years, I have not gained much on tmy face. Although my face is not skinny but the fat seems to accumulate more toward the bottom of my face giving the impression of a double chin that I find really unpleasant at this age. I was wodenring if fat transfer could be a good option for me considering the fact that I don't have a child yet and there are chances of pregnancy in future.

Thank you

if your weight is stable, and you are say 35 ish or older then you are not a bad candidate. pregnancy has two risks: weight gain during the pregnancy that you have to shake afterward and at times after pregnancy you lose facial volume to the face even more. it is always better to do fat transfer when you are heavier than after you lose the weight for the risk of gaining the weight afterward and not looking so good. my mom, for example, has lost about 20 pounds and still looks great 4 years after the fat transfer with no touchups. the pregnancy thing is a relatively smaller risk but i always try to express those risks so that you understand everything that is in my mind when i provide you the risks, benefits, and limitations.
best,

Thank you dr. Lam!

I am 30 now and my weight has become more or less stable in the last couple of years. Would you still advise that I wait until I am in my mid thirties?

i would probably advise you to wait until your mid-30s. until then you could get some restylane (done well) conservatively. :)
