Jawline Fat transfer and chin implant

Postby AverageGuy » Mon Mar 14, 2011 8:47 pm

Hi Dr. Lam

I'm a 35 yr. old male and I am looking to make my jawline more square. I was wondering if a Fat transfer to the jawline (mandible area) is better than getting Jaw angle implants ?

Also, I recently got a medium square chin implant almost three weeks ago, but I I'm not fully satisfied with the projection and my chin doesn't look really square. I was hoping for more projection, but my doctor said a large size would have been too big and that it was a tight squeeze getting the medium implant in.
It also appears that the implant has made my face a little longer which is what I didn't want. Is it common for a chin implant to make the face appear somewhat longer or is it possible that the implant was placed too low ? How can I tell ?

Thank you for your time.

hi,
1. i do not perform jaw implants. sorry.
2. i do not think fat grafting is a safe option because fat placed in a small area may not age well for you. i use fat grafting for someone with aging of the face in a balanced and blended way.
3. a chin implant should be placed along the bottom of the jawbone to line up with it. it could make the face appear longer depending on your facial shape and implant used. if you have a narrow chin and a narrower chin implant that does not have a significant extension is used you could be narrower looking. or that is simply the way you are seeing it. i wish i could give you better answers but i don't have great ones for you for your situation.
best,
sml
