Scar Prevention

Postby JohnStarks » Mon Mar 07, 2011 4:35 pm

Hi,

I wasn't sure where to post this and couldn't find much in the search.

Last night, I slipped on ice and cut myself on the chin. One cut was linear and the other is an indent. What steps can be taken to prevent scarring?

I've cleaned the wounds and have placed ointment and bandage. Any other advice? Are silicone sheets only for raised scars?

so sorry that i missed this post until now. your first week, keeping it moist and preventing it from scabbing is important. obviously seeing a doctor to make sure it does not need sutures is important but at this point that is too late to mention. o/w after the wound heals, silicone gel can help align the collagen and keep a moisture barrier. i would consider that for the first 9 to 12 weeks. you can use kelo-cote or scar guard. if the wound starts to get thick, then KTP laser and 5FU can manage that. i would not do steroid injections if it gets thick, as you may see throughout this Web site.
best,
