Varied incision height on both eyes

Postby packback » Sun Mar 06, 2011 5:18 pm

Hi Dr. Lam,
I had eyelid surgery a month ago and have been healing quite nicely. Although I'm Asian, I did not have double eye lid surgery done. I have single creases in both eyes and wanted the ptosis corrected in each eye but more so in my right eye because it was noticebly droopy. After the surgery I notice right away that the height from the lash line upwards to where the incision was made across the eye is quite noticbly different. In fact, the height on my right eye is more than double than the left. I thought this was weird but decided the PS must have had a good reason for this. So now my left eye is sigificantly smaller than my right eye. I've read several forums where doctors say you must wait for the full effect of the surgery to happen 6-12 months out. What I would like to ask you is this. Is this common for incisions to be drastically different in height size? Also, at what point is it reasonable to bring this up with my PS after the surgery. I do a lot of public speaking and have my photograph taken often for publications and video. I would like to have a revision of the left eye so there will be minimal downtime for my job. Thank you.

my feeling is that is not normal but could be possible with swelling. i would definitely check in with your physician earlier than later to make sure all is ok. sorry that i cannot help further with this since i am not taking care of you.
best,
sml
