One eye has less fat than the other?

Postby ciel » Wed Mar 02, 2011 4:38 pm

Hi Dr Lam

My left eye seems to have a slightly more prevalent epicanthical fold, so my right eye appears to be longer. It also makes my left eye seem slightly cross eyed or something because there is less white between the eye and the inner corner. The left eye also seems to be more "hollow" (it's not noticible to anyone other than me) and since my right eye has more fat, it forms a crease easily with glue but my left eye is more difficult. Is it possible that my left eye has ptosis? If I did double eyelid surgery, would it correct the "bump" that appears? Do I need epicanthoplasty on my left eye to make the size of the epicanthical fold the same as my left, or can you fix that during the double eyelid surgery.

Thank you

1. don't know why there is a bump. don't expect that to follow a double eyelid surgery but could not promise you that.
2. the asymmetry of the creases is most likely due to one side having a better formed crease. that is typically improved after a standard double eyelid procedure but i cannot promise you obviously.
3. you do not have ptosis. you have pseudoptosis caused by the fat hanging down more on one side due to a more incomplete fold on that side.
4. i do not think you need an epicanthoplasty and i do not think that i can guarantee that level of symmetry after a procedure.
hope all that makes sense.
best,
sml
