Hypopigmented Scars

Postby kilgoj » Sat Feb 26, 2011 12:04 pm

Hello Dr. Lam -

I have several hypopigmented scars on my face from a botched chemical peel done about 9 years ago. They are all round-ish and irregular in shape. They are very slightly elevated and all of them are white. Most of them are pretty small (the size of a pencil eraser tip or less) but a couple of them are fairly wide (maybe about the size of half of a dime). I'm wondering if scars like this would be candidates for scar revision? I haven't seen anything else on this forum about hypopigmented scars so I was just curious. I live in Dallas and can come see you for a consultation but I wanted to get a general idea of what (if anything) could be done first. Thank you so much for your time.

no, i would most likely not cut these out because they will probably lead to worse scars. the only way to fix your situation would be either to bleach down your surrounding skin with 4% hydroquinone like with Obagi products or you could possibly repigment the areas using PUVA therapy but i do not perform that and i do not know the risks or the success rates with PUVA.
best,
sml
