asian rhinoplasty

Postby ocim » Mon Feb 21, 2011 3:35 am

Hello,

I'm an Asian looking into getting rhinoplasty.

One of the things that I've wanted to find out was your professional opinion about raising a nose bridge to a significant height. Now I know everyone is different but do you think that raising a nose bridge to a significant height is something generally difficult for surgeons to do, or one that poses serious obstacles for those who are Asian?

The reason why I ask this is that the before and after photos I have seen online are pretty conservative (change-wise) and, to be quite frank, at times I could not tell the difference between the before and after.

For what I mean about significant height, please google the name "Hwanhee" and take a quick look at this guy's before and after on google images. I know everybody's different but I am frankly amazed at the difference of the nose. Is this level of change something generally safe or achievable?

good questions. in general, i would say no. if you raise a bridge over 3 mm, i have found that the implant can start to become visible because it starts to stretch the skin out along the edges. i sometimes have to use additional silicone micro treatments along the edges when it is over 3 mm to soften the implant to nose transition and to thicken the skin envelope so that the implant is not visible. if you look at some of the photos of the guy you mentioned, you can see the edges of the implant, at least i can. also from a profile view if the nose is too high it can look very unnatural. asian noses should start from a profile view at about the midpupil not at the top of the eye where white noses start. that is why noses look fake like popsicle sticks stuck in noses. i agree with you that the before and after photos are subtle but they are not when you see the person in real life. the highlight that bounces off the augmented nose creates a thinner looking and more defined nose even though the bridge is not significantly raised, something that is very hard to capture on a photo. when i was doing silicone implants, my before and after results looked great but my patients looked absolutely terrible.
