Cartilage Reshaping?

Postby amyamc » Tue Feb 15, 2011 5:14 pm

For as long as I can remember, I've hated the slight cleft in the tip of my nose; it casts a shadow and people think my nose has dirt on it. My mom has the same cleft. It goes all the way down between my nostrils, and the right side of my septum comes down further than the left.

Does work on this count as a rhinoplasty? I can't find that much procedural or cost information on surgeries on the cartilage part and not the bony parts of the nose (which I'm happy with).

Would something like this be done at all? How? How much would it cost?

yes, that is a very common thing. yes, it is a rhinoplasty but rhinoplasty simply means to change the shape of a nose. even changing the septum can be considered a "functional rhinoplasty" since it is for breathing purposes changing the shape of the nose but obviously not strictly a cosmetic rhinoplasty. it is a common complaint and common technique that i use. here are a couple examples that may not look exactly like yours but anyways here are a couple:

Wow, both of those turned out really great. :) When you do work on just the tip of the nose, do you more commonly make the incision(s) on the inside or outside of the nose?

i still prefer an incision along the bottom of the nose because i can be almost certain that the tip has been sewn directly straight whereas a blind technique with a closed method really is a bit of guess work that it is straight. plus, the incision should heal to the point that you really cannot see it.
best,
