Revision otoplasty

Postby twin.guardian » Mon Jan 31, 2011 6:05 pm

Dear Dr. Lam,

I'm 23/male, I've already had an otoplastic surgery 16 years ago. Unfortunately, they made a big mistake, almost the whole cartilage was cut out and the bondage was removed too early. My ears have a very unnatural cup-like shape now. I've recently been on a consultation and the doctor said that there is nothing he could do, because of the lack of cartilage. Do you also think that there isn't any chance to correct the previous malpractice? I can send photos of my ears, but I don't want to post it here.

Thank you for your time

i reviewed your photos and i am a bit perplexed. the ear and the lobule look as if they would still need reduction but i do see the edge of cut cartilage in the antihelix. unfortunately, i would most likely have to see you to determine how much cartilage is left before i give you a definitive yes or no. in any case, i could still not give you a definitive until i do the procedure. my gut tells me this is doable and that i could at least partly correct the ear but obviously not the appearance of the cut cartilage. i assume you live very far from me?
best,
