silicone treatment for o.s patients

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on managing, treating, and correcting acne scarring. (Of note, Dr. Lam is focused principally on acne scarring rather than on managing the ongoing condition of acne, which a dermatologist would be better equipped to address.)

silicone treatment for o.s patients

Postby twanger » Mon Jan 03, 2011 12:52 pm

hi doctor,

i'm wondering how far apart do silicone treatments have to be spaced. as you can imagine, travelling would cost quite a fair bit. i've read on here that you typically require 2-3 sessions to see results. is it possible to do two within the course of one trip?

happy new year! :)

hi,
yes, i totally understand your issues. however, the point of spacing silicone at least one month apart is so that the microdroplets do not coalesce if too much is placed in a non-microdroplet fashion all at one time so they MUST be spaced at least a month for collagen to build around each micrdroplet so that they do not merge and stay separate. the minimum time is 1 month between sessions. you can wait 3 to 4 months or as long as you like. however, if you wait a very long time then you will have to wait until you see a change obviously. for severe acne scarring, i recommend coming back every 4 to 6 weeks to speed things along. for mild acne scarring or for someone who does not or cannot come back that soon waiting about 90 days (3 months) will allow easier time to travel plus sometimes the collagen building that occurs over 90 days can improve matters an additional 10 to 20%, which therefore could minimize need for # of sessions. hope that is clear.
best,
sml
