Tear Troughs - Fat or Injectible Fillers?

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

Tear Troughs - Fat or Injectible Fillers?

Postby Vank565 » Wed Dec 29, 2010 6:23 pm

Hi..

I have a hard time retaining fat on and around the orbital rim and into the tear tough region.
To correct this I had a PS inject fat which didn't last too long. Do you normally treat these areas
with fat only only or do you also use inject fillers (if so, which one's) What is your success rate in this area?

The eyes are obviousl the first thing you look at on someone's face and I would really like to improve this area.

Thanks..

i use both fat and fillers. for someone who is doing a full face fat then i use fat but to do just the rims i tend to just do an office based procedure with restylane. it is more economical and targeted to do the rims with restylane and touch it up once a year to once every other year than fat. i like fat when i can shape an entire face to make it look more youthful. most people over 35 years of age really would benefit from filling a lot of little areas that they just don't know about because they do not understand areas of aging other than the orbital rims or the smile lines or jowls. the reason my fat transfer results look good is that i do not just do the orbital rims but use fat to blend over the entire face.
best,
sml
