Ready for surgery

Postby mauve0002 » Sun Dec 26, 2010 8:14 pm

Hello agaun Dr. Lam,
I want to schedule and a rhinoplasty and lip reduction for the first week of febuary 2011. will you available then? After much research and tons of questions I decide to go with you. I have one more question as to why a it would take 2-3 months for a lip reduction result to become apparant? That is too long..if you took excess tissue out why wouldn't the lip get smaller sooner? And are the incisions on the bottom lip visible when speaking? approx how long will I have to be in Texas after these two combined procedures?

Thanks.

first, only very few people have months of swelling. it is more typical of someone who has had tons of bad fillers like Aquamid and typically who already had some unusual swelling beforehand due to lymphatic obstruction. lymphatics clear the system of swelling. after an excision sometimes the lymphatics remain either injured or irritated and can lead to persistent swelling. in ethnic lips i typically see a few weeks of minor swelling and only in very few cases have seen a couple to 3 months. this is not typically the extreme swelling of the first week, just mild swelling that could linger for a while. hope that is clear.

the incisions are typically just visible in the first 1 to 2 weeks. typically at 3 to 4 weeks it is already hard to see. remember that the incision is visible early for two reasons: one there are sutures there and second the lip is rolled out more from swelling. remember that the incision line falls where your dry and wet lip meet so that it should not be viewed as an incision line.

if you do the nose at the same time, i would like you to stay a week so that i can personally remove the sutures myself. i am very obsessive of controlling every aspect of care and i would much prefer to remove the sutures myself if at all possible because i am much more delicate during suture removal.

if you are interested in scheduling, please please call 888-866-3388 or 972-312-8188 rather than email. it will be much faster to move things along. look forward to take care of you.
best,
sml
