Pigment after mole removal

Postby jb23 » Fri Dec 24, 2010 8:27 am

Dear Dr Lam.

2 weeks ago I had a mole removed from my cheek via the shave excision method. It was a slightly raised brown mole. The scab has now come off and there is some pigment remaining along with a scar. I feel very down about this as I'd rather have the mole than a flat mole and scar. What can I do to remove this pigment? Shall I go back to my dermatologist? If so what will he likely do? Shave it again or cut the mole out completely? I really don't want to leave it the way it is now as it looks worst than before. I had 2 moles removed from my face a few years ago and the results were amazing, sadly it hasn't been so good with this mole.

Many thanks for your time.

hmmm, that is something you better ask your dermatologist. when you say "scar" if you mean thickening, then that should be managed earlier with KTP laser(or Pulsed Dye laser)/5-FU injections NOT steroids to manage it from getting worse. The remaining pigment probably could be cauterized down the road to remove the remaining color if there is no "scar" as defined above.
best,
