Two part question

Postby Nazcanlines » Mon Dec 20, 2010 11:12 am

Hi Dr Lam,

I had fat transfer (not with you, not based in the States) about two years ago to correct undereye hollowness. Some time after I developed clusters of small white bumps along the ridges where i had the fat grafts. I had a few different diagnoses as to what they were, including syringomas. I tried everything from cautery to retin-a to try get rid of them but it was an up and down process. Two years later and most of the fat from my fat grafts have disappeared. The white bumps have mostly disappeared too. I have been using bio-oil for the past 2 or 3 months and I wonder if there is any correlation with that.

The thing is I would like to do fat grafting again because I was so happy with the results from it, but I am very scared about the bumps returning again, as they caused me much psychological agony. Do you think the fat grafts could be linked to the bumps? I only thought so because one plastic surgeon I saw about the bumps made an offhand remark about that possibility, and it has stuck with me. Do you think maybe Restylane would be a better option to pursue?

Also, is restylane a good tryout for fat grafting? I thought maybe instead of fat grafting again I could try restylane as a preview of how a second round might look?

Thanks for your time!

hi,
1. the bumps should have absolutely nothing to do with fat grafting. it is just a product of aging.
2. i much prefer a fat transfer over a filler because it is more global and in my hands permanent. obviously, if someone else does it and you are only getting a year longevity then fillers would be better. if someone is going to have a fat transfer i hate fillers sitting in the way. watch this video to understand my perspective better:
