fat transfer advice for young woman

Postby rainygirl » Wed Dec 15, 2010 5:27 am

Hello Dr.Lam, let me first say that I have found your website extremely informative and helpful. I would like to meet you for a proper consultation but it is not possible for the time being and I am still waiting to get a chance to travel to see you. I am hoping to get some advise from you before that...I am a 25 year old Middle Eastern female and after having gone through severe stress the past couple of years, my face appears to have prematurely aged...I find that my face has become sort of 'pear shaped', my nose appears larger, and deep nasiolabial lines and jowls have formed and even my eyes look different. I considered getting fillers, but after watching your videos and carefully studying my older pictures, I now realize that just filling the nasiolabial folds and the upper cheeks wouldn't be enough, it seems like my jawline, chin, mid+lower cheeks, and outer brows have sunken as well...even my lips have 'flattened' inwards. People have been telling me that I look haggard, stressed out and tired.

Below are pictures of me...at age 21, age 23 and the last three are recent pictures (age 25), so you can see the changes that have occurred (I do apologize for the poor quality of the images). I am at the same weight in all the pictures. I personally feel that my face looked at its very best at ages 22-23, and celebrity cheeks I admire are Shania Twain and Sandra Bullock in her younger years. Would it be unrealistic of me to expect turning back 2-3 years (before the whole severe stress episode in my life began)? I would love to hear what your thoughts are on my face and cheek structure...where would you personally place fat or filler to achieve a most pleasing result? And what would the estimated cost be? I went in for consultation with a plastic surgeon a few months back and he actually suggested I get a buccal fat removal...what do you think of his suggestion? Thank you very much once again for all the information you have shared on here Dr. Lam and thank you for sharing your time reading through the posts and answering our questions, I understand that you must be a very busy person, so the effort that you put in by sharing your expert opinions and knowledge is something that is very much appreciated.

hi,
in general i am not a big fan of putting fat in a young woman because i am always worried about how it will age after babies and after further aging with weight gain etc. yes, i am more on the conservative side of things. also, i would not do buccal fat removal. you already have too little fat in your face. that makes no sense. to be safe i probably would recommend temporary fillers until you have had children and reached at least your mid 30s. obviously very conservative fat can be done but you have to stay the same weight over your lifetime. if your parents are thin then that is a good sign. also the built in safety mechanism is that i use much less fat in younger people and also as you age you tend to lose even more fat. with all that said, i would still encourage you to have temporary fillers.
best,
sml
