Unhappy with Fat Transfer results

Postby Kels » Thu Nov 18, 2010 2:11 pm

Hi Dr. Lam!!! We met a couple years ago when I had come in for Perlane (from St.Louis) Anyhow, I really liked the Perlane results to the cheek area and began researching alternative/ more permanent solution for acne scarring. I really wanted to stay in the local area, so I checked out a few surgeons in St. Louis and went with one that was highly recommended by a friend. To make a super long story short, I am now a week shy of 6-months post-op and could not be more unhappy with the results. While the improvement of the scarring is drastic (I would say 80%--far better than any other procedure I've tried), I was not under the impression that my ENTIRE facial structure was going to be sacrificed. I look older (in my opinion), my features are drastically smaller, and my cheeks look huge, and there is also an area that is 'dented'...where possible the fat did not survive, idk? So during the past 6 months, my surgeon simply advised me to "wait it out until at least the 6 month point, there is swelling, not all the fat survives"...but quickly approaching the 6-month point, I do not believe there is any way way it is going to turn out to my satisfaction...
So, my question to you is--what now? I am getting married next year and would like to be able to correct this problem prior. I've read 2 options 2 date: micro-liposuction of the cheek, or, removing (cutting out) the unwanted fat deposits. ....do you perform either procedure? What would you recommend? I know I've read several comments of yours stating that if you are under 30 (I am 29), it is best to wait it out because the facial area will hollow with age, but to be honest that is simply not an option for me. Please let me know what you think. I can send photos if you would like, just let me know where I should send to. THANKS so much for your time!!

unfortunately, i do not perform microliposuction of the face for fat transfer. i believe there are several in the U.S. that do do that. I just do not know to whom I can send you. BUT, at 6 months, I truly would wait it out. You may save yourself from problems if the fat dissipates. Give yourself a few more months in my opinion.
best,

if the fat dissipates, which it can in some cases, that can avoid a surgery that may be very hard to fix the condition as it stands.
