Treating small, old keloid with 5-FU

Treating small, old keloid with 5-FU

Postby Christine » Thu Nov 11, 2010 7:37 am

About 8 years ago I removed a small mole on my neck for cosmetic reason(and how I wish I hadn't now!), because a small keloid formed.
Maybe 1-2 years after I had Erbium laser on it, and silicon sheeting. After that I also tried a few cortisone injections. But it hasn't really improved.
I have tried to live with it, but it's very visible just on the neck, above necklines.
I'm now contemplating 5-FU injections, and I'm wondering if this is something that works for such old scars too. Do I need to have laser too? How would you treat it? Is there any risk of the keloid getting worse and bigger if I start treating it again. Is the best thing to just try and live with it? Can you recommend any bleaching creams? I have attached a photo for your evaluation. Many thanks for your expert opinion.

hi, yes, i can help this using 5-FU and laser. the laser will make it flatter and less red, and the 5-FU will also flatten it. the scar will not be gone but it should become much flatter and less red. if you can live with that limitation then i would be happy to help you. i personally think it will be better than your other treatments.
best,

Thank you so much for reply.
Is there any risk with laser + 5-FU that the scar might get larger?
Plus, how many treatments do you think it would take to get it flatter and less red?
