Cutting or removing unwanted fat grafts

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on various surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation, including fat transfer/fat grafting, browlift, blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery), facelift, etc. Also, this category includes questions on hand rejuvenation via fat grafting. (Of note, Dr. Lam does not perform body rejuvenation except for hand fat grafting)

Cutting or removing unwanted fat grafts

Postby mickey » Tue Oct 26, 2010 12:31 pm

I noticed on you tube you have been doing more of this rare/ difficult procedure. What are your findings on the" removal of fat grafts by excision" Is there usually alot of scar build up after removal?Does it take many procedures? Is this a risky procedure? Do the fat grafts usually pop out like a zit or are they stuck in the tissue having to be carefully pulled out? Do you think the process of damage on a fat cell may actually trigger a repair response that can make remaining fat grafts grow or removed area regenerate. Lastly how long untill you see the final result of a removal.I know myself and many others are eagerly awaiting a video on this subject.I really appreciate your forthcoming with all your knowledge and findings.

fortunately, i have only had to remove a fat lump from my own work once. however, i have done this about 3 times for other docs' work. it is not that hard to remove it but it is very hard to remove fat from a patient who has just way too much fat put in. that is the hardest thing to do. removing a lump of fat through an incision should not promote any changes in the surrounding transplanted or non-transplanted fat.

I read recently that you removed fat graft from a woman's lip and it came oozing out. Do you have pictures of this individual before and after would be great to see!
How long has it been since that removal? It appears some online posters say fat grafts can come back worse after removal...is that possible?

no, fat grafts do NOT come back and do NOT come back worse. i have many patients many years out from this and there is no such concern. that is insane and ludicrous. i will find a couple of images from my vast catalog of fat transfer corrections:
http://www.lamfacialplastics.com/galler ... r.jpg.html
http://www.lamfacialplastics.com/galler ... 6.jpg.html
the first image is about 3 years out and i just saw her last year because she flew in believe it or not for a fat transfer that i did for her face (of course beautifully).
the second one is probably about 4 years out and i have been seeing her all the time in Dallas at least 2 to 3 times per year since then for fillers and Botox.
best,
s.
