Botox for the jawline

Postby dawn » Thu Oct 14, 2010 10:59 am

Hi Dr. Lam,

I received a double dose of botox for the jawline from a board certified plastic surgeon on May 31, 2010, and though it's been 4.5 months, the results seem nonexistent. When I bite down, I can still feel that the masseter muscle is rather hard. Is it possible that a) the final result has yet to set in, b) I am not a good candidate for this procedure and results will always be to minimal to notice, or c) the first time just didn't take? Would it be worthwhile to try it again?

Thank you for your time!

a) the final result has yet to set in,NO PRACTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE. BOTOX IS MAXED AT 6 WEEKS AND MAY DIMINISH A LITTLE AFTER THAT TYPICALLY LASTING 6 TO 9 MONTHS. b) I am not a good candidate for this procedure and results will always be to minimal to notice, POSSIBLY. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO DO A GOOD TEST BEFORE HAND. OR, THE PHYSICIAN HAS LITTLE EXPERIENCE IN INJECTING IT IN THE RIGHT AREA. EVEN IF YOU DO A TON OF BOTOX BUT YOU DO NOT TARGET IT SPECIFICALLY AT THE MUSCLE BONE JUNCTION WHERE THE 3 HEADS OF THE MASSETER CONVERGE YOU WILL GET VERY LITTLE RESULT AND VERY LITTLE LONGEVITY. ANOTHER POSSIBILITY IS YOU FORGOT HOW YOU USED TO LOOK LIKE. I KNOW THAT SOUNDS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE BUT I ENCOUNTER IT EVERY DAY. JUST DID AN OTOPLASTY FOR A GENTLEMAN FROM ENGLAND AND HE COULD NOT REMEMBER HOW HIS EARS LOOKED LIKE YESTERDAY UNTIL I SHOWED HIM THE RESULTS. SO BEFORE AND AFTER PHOTOGRAPHS WITH STANDARDIZED LIGHTING IS CRITICAL ALWAYS. or c) the first time just didn't take? Would it be worthwhile to try it again? ONLY IF YOU FULFILL THE POINTS MENTIONED IN B AND HAVE AN EXPERIENCED INJECTOR DO IT. HONESTLY, I DO NOT CARE WHAT TITLE OR BOARD CERTIFICATION SOMEONE CARRIES. I CARE ABOUT HOW OFTEN THAT PHYSICIAN PERFORMS THE PROCEDURE AND HOW MANY HE HAS DONE. THAT MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE.
best,
