Acne scar treatment

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions on managing, treating, and correcting acne scarring. (Of note, Dr. Lam is focused principally on acne scarring rather than on managing the ongoing condition of acne, which a dermatologist would be better equipped to address.)

Acne scar treatment

Postby phx » Mon Sep 27, 2010 5:58 pm

Dr. Lam,

Based on the enclosed pics would I be a good candidate for any of your scar treatments. If so, what would you suggest for treatment. Just a little background regarding my scars. I had severe cystic acne during my teens which I final got cleared up with accutane. I've had dermabrassion done 20 yrs ago in an attempt to improve the scaring...I think it mad it worse. Also had a deep acid chemical peel with little benefit 14 yrs ago.

I also think I have poikiloderma on the sides of my neck that I am interested in treating with laser. Any suggestions? Since I would be traveling from out of state to see you would it be possible to have acne scar treatment and laser treatment for poikiloderma done in the same day?

Thank you for your time!

Acne can be treated by applying neem oil on affected area of skin daily before going to sleep and then wash next day in the morning. This is the best and fastest way to get rid of acne and scare.

Dr. Lam,

I was the orginal poster on this thread and hopefully you can still see the pics that were attached at that time.

I came to you about 6 mo. ago for silicone injections, and will come for a follow up. However, the scarring under my jaw line has not responded well, as you said it might not, so another option I would like to explore is excision. Basically looking at something very invasive as I would like to have approx. 1/2" wide and 3" long section of the scared skin removed and sutured. The skin in this area is so scared and rolling that I would perfer an long linear scar. Think I rather look like I was in an accident rahter than what I have now. Even a bad looking scar might even look better. Guess it would be similiar on how you take a turkey neck off someone but under the jaw line instead. Just throwing it out there...thoughts!

Thanks

hi,
i would not cut them out. that would be a dreadful mistake. i would consider filling them again with silicone. the other option (but would have to see you in person to really confirm) would be Artefill. may work better and is permanent. however, you do need a skin test if you have never had collagen before. a local PS can help you do that.
