scar revision question

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions addressing linear scars, depressed scars, keloid scars, hypertrophic scars, and other facial reconstructive topics. (Of note, Dr. Lam no longer accepts medical insurance so he rarely manages cancer reconstruction or trauma anymore.)

scar revision question

Postby DK0602 » Fri Sep 17, 2010 6:28 am

Hi Dr. Lam! I'm the one that had the chicken pox scar revision on my face. I'm trying really hard to be patient, but I had a quick question. (well maybe 2) The scar I had done by my eye looks great! There is really no indention there at all anymore. However the scar that is pretty much where my laugh line would be (if I had any) still looks a little bit indented. As the one by my lip. Is it possible that these scars will still fill in as far as looking indented still or will they stay indented? I knew I'd still have some sort of mark where the pox mark was, but the whole point was to make them look better and not indented.
My second question is this. How would you go about fixing small chicken pox scars on the face?
Thanks so much!

hi,
yes, you need to be patient. in general, scars can over the first few months and yes they can fill in over time but you really need to be asking your doctor such questions. as far as chicken pox scars i would have to see them but in general i tend to use mostly CROSS and at times silicone and at other times both. i rarely find myself needing to surgically excise them.
best,

Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't of come to you before having mine excised. I have always heard though that the only way to get rid of scars is to cut them out. I guess it just all depends on the scar.

yes, it is a case by case scenario. this forum is to provide general answers to general questions. specific evaluation is required in person with me to determine truly the best course of action. just want to reaffirm the mission of this forum.
